Professional info​

  John is a passionate educator, a NGO leader and a business leader in Korea, emerged from a Government background. His focus and expertise are across on 21st century teaching and learning e.g 1:1/mobile/personalized learning, teacher professional development, IOT/STEM/software and English Education.

  He created a NGO named “G.E.T. 21” in 2012 in support of education reform initiatives with focus to empower educators and students with 21st century teaching and learning strategies. In partnership with Intel, he led the localization of numerous philanthropy education offerings e.g. Intel Teach Element courses (Project Based Approaches, Collaboration in the Digital Classroom, and Assessment in the 21st Century Classroom, Thinking Critically with Data) and Transforming Learning Series including Technology Use Collections etc. He also led both online and off-line capacity building opportunities for hundreds of educators. His online lecture is available at EBS, Education Broadcasting System.

  He serves as a member of Government National Curriculum Standard Committee and Government Research on 1:1 and Digital Textbook researches. Since 2013, he led the creation of the “Intel Creative Teacher Network(ICTN)”, a voluntary teacher community, with over 300+ nationwide teachers in order to spread the long standing belief on Learning, Sharing and Action for Students’ Future.

  He led the publication of “Students are the Future 2014” with 21+ Intel Creative Teachers, a compilation of innovative classroom unit plans with 21st century skill focuses. Aligned with Presidential focus on Software/Programming education since 2014, John and his ICT network are emerging as a leader for K12 IOT/STEM/Software education by helping numerous Government teacher trainings and Student Camps using Intel Galileo/Edison Technologies in combination of 21st century teaching and learning tools such as thinking tools.

From a business perspective, he is leading a “Brain English”, a both online & off-line English Education Academy, which promotes brain based English Learning Methodologies proved by global scientific researches. Brain English provides both online contents and live classes for K12 schools using video conferencing systems with highly qualified English native teachers from the US and Canada regions.

Formerly, John served as a supervisor and an educational researcher at Gwangju Office of Education. He was in charge of drafting and implementing policies in order to accelerate effective technology use and integration across all schools in the city. He also led the design of the future classroom models and English Online Teaching Centre as part of the Government priorities. For the consecutive 2 years of 2009 and 2010, he won the 1st place among the MOE competitions for the English Online Teaching Centre performance evaluation. Besides these, he managed various ICT in Education charters including EBS cyber home study, International exchange via internet, Information ethics and teacher training for effective ICT uses. He served as Elementary School Teacher from 1992-2004.

B.A in elementary education, M.A in elementary computer science from the Gwangju National University of Education.  Ph.D course completed in educational technology from Chonnam National University.
